ABS TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
From the Mission Statement: "The American Balint Society strives to
develop & support professionals who lead or are members of Balint groups."
The Society offers four types of leadership training: Balint Leadership Training Intensives, Intensives on The Road, the Balint Group Leader Education Fellowship, and full Credentialing.
Balint Leadership Training Intensives and Intensives on the Road
Intensives are four-day conferences which provide CME and APA-approved CE credits. They generally occur two or three times a year with 40 - 60 people in attendance. International registrants are welcome!
In contrast an Intensive on the Road is hosted by an organization (e.g. a large medical training facility) to train at least 8-10 people to lead ongoing Balint groups. It can be scheduled at the convenience of the organization, takes less time and costs less than sending the same number of staff to a regular conference. It requires a contract between the ABS and the hosting organization negotiated with the Coordinator of Intensives.
Balint Group Leader Education Fellowship
The year long Balint Group Leader Education Fellowship (BGLEF) provides in depth education about the Balint Group method and a basic level of leadership skill at lower cost and lesser time commitment than full leader credentialing while encouraging those interested in going on to credentialed status to do so. The BGLEF uses a distance learning format so Fellows do not have to leave their work sites to participate.
For more information please contact the Fellowship Director.

Balint Credentialed Leader Training
Becoming a credentialed leader provides supervision and training in Balint Group work over a two-year period. During this time the candidate will have regular supervision to review the process of their Balint group. Attendance at a minimum of three Balint Leadership Training Intensives is also a requirement of the training.
Candidates who have completed the credentialing process have found it very rewarding. We are proud of our credentialed leaders and the work they do towards training professionals. We hope you will consider embarking on this journey!
If you are not currently an ABS member and would like more information about the credentialing process, please contact the Chair of Credentialing.
